Is Dark Chocolate Anti-Ageing?

Is Dark Chocolate Anti-Ageing?

We make no health claims about our chocolate. For us, making exceptional chocolate is a labour of love and we want you to enjoy a little of the very best. But we're often asked whether dark chocolate, or specifically, the cocoa in dark chocolate, has any health benefits. Our blog on the 'Health Benefits of Dark Chocolate' explores some of these key themes.

In more recent research, scientists at King's College, London, have been looking into the anti-ageing properties of dark chocolate. They've studied the effects of theobromine, an alkaloid found in cocoa, and therefore in dark chocolate, to understand how it may affect the ageing process by changing the way our genes are switched on and off.

They also studied whether other coffee or cocoa metabolites might have the same effect and the results suggest that it's only theobromine that has this specific association.

None of this is the reason we make distinctively complex chocolate, made with cocoa grown in volcanic soil. We do it because we want you to enjoy finding your perfect cocoa origin in just the same way as you might choose a wine or a coffee. But knowing that your one square a day may also have an anti-ageing effect can only be a good thing, right?
