With access by plane once a day, this really is one of the more remote cocoa farms in our collection. The farming village is in the centre of Malekula island, which you can also reach by an 8-hour boat journey from Port Vila. The main track in the village connects the single store, church and well. The amount of cocoa grown on the island of Malekula doesn’t even register on the cocoa scale of production, which shows how rare it is.
This island is pure paradise and its only predator is the coconut crabs - an enormous example of the species with a penchant for coconuts (and luckily not cocoa pods!). The now thriving farming tradition and the exceptional cocoa it produces really is to be championed.
