The Solomon Island's largest island, Guadalcanal, known indigenously as Isatabu, is home to the native marsupial the grey cuscus, colourful parrots and estuarine crocodiles. It's home to some of the finest cocoa in the region, growing in rich volcanic soil and protected from the heat of the sun by towering coconut palms.
Our farm here is based on the north coast of the island. The husband and wife team along with his four sisters maintain a beautiful, multi-crop farm. Fermentation of the cocoa beans is carried out close to the houses so that with a quick dash the beans can be covered when showery squalls pass over.
