Our cocoa estate in the Sambirano valley has been producing cocoa for over 100 years. Now a certified organic estate, the farmer describes it as a 'living organism'. Committed to sustainable practices, the farmer provides land to employees to encourage self-sufficiency and has converted all energy to solar, much of which also goes to the nearby village.

The French legacy in cocoa farming in the area can still be seen in the form of ancient bullock carts some of which are still used to transport cocoa and other crops to fermentaries or to market.

Why are there volcanoes on an island that isn't near any tectonic boundaries? Whilst we leave it to the experts to uncover, the fertile volcanic soil, giant hardwood trees and mild wet climate are perfect for growing exceptional cocoa.
